Tell us about the work you are doing to create a wilder world.
Getting everyone to stop using single use plastic straws is a great way to keep our world wilder. Each day in America we are using over 500-million single use plastic straws and none ever get recycled. That is enough straws to fill over 127 school busses full of plastic straws every single day.

Our OneLessStraw Pledge Campaign allows people to sign a pledge promising to go strawless for 30-days: https://onelessstraw.org/individuals-signup

We also have a pledge for entire schools to sign up which states they promise to share the campaign with all their students. We even have a fun school fundraiser built into the campaign: https://onelessstraw.org/school-signup

And we also created a great way for restaurants to participate by pledging to “Only Hand Out Straws Upon Request” for 30-days: https://onelessstraw.org/business-signup

We even made up cool campaign buttons for servers to wear that tell customers that they “We Only Serve Straws Upon Request” which we are giving out FREE.

What are five (5) of your short term goals to accomplish in the next 1-2 years?
1. Educate everyone about the severity of the issue.
2. Solicit the help of students around the world and ask them to become change-makers in their homes by sharing their newfound knowledge and getting at least one family member to also sign the pledge.
3. Engage schools around the world and ask that they share the information from our global campaign and allow their students to get involved.
4. Reach out to restaurants and business owners around the world and ask that they adopt the “We Only Serve Straws Upon Request” as well.
5. Get communities to also adopt the campaign and make it part of their community outreach initiatives.

How can others help you accomplish these goals?
We need everyone to start by taking the 30-day pledge themselves and then share this with everyone they know. Next we need everyone to reach out to their favorite restaurant and ask that they also participate by adopting the “”We Only Serve Straws Upon Request” program.

What have been some successes you have had?
We have been featured by National Geographic in their recent article about plastic straws.

Singer song writer Jack Johnson just announced he is adopting the OneLessStraw Pledge Campaign for his entire east coast summer concert series.

National Geographic liked the campaign so much they removed all plastic straws from their cafeteria at the world headquarters and featured the campaign i their magazine.

Our campaign has already been translated in Spanish for a major roll out in Mexico. We are finalizing the translation of the campaign in Vietnamese, Italian and French as well.

In the first 6-months since we launched the campaign, we have had over 200 parter organizations from around the world join the campaign and we have received thousands of pledges from over 30 countries.

Giving restaurants an option to participate has also been more successful than we had ever imagined.
